My name is Steven Nemes, and my interests primarily concern Christian theology and philosophy. Before anything else, I am a Christian with a concern to be faithful to "the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints" (Jude 3) and to call others to salvation in Christ. If I study and write theology or philosophy, it is only as a means to this greater end. Consequently, my intellectual approach to these matters is typically one of fides quaerens intellectum -- faith seeking understanding.
I enjoy listening to music, and my tastes are eclectic. On the one hand, I really enjoy the experimental explorations into metal, progressive, and other sorts of rock undertaken by the band Kayo Dot. On the other hand, I have a taste for the jazz harmonies of Pat Metheny. Lately, these two are all I listen to.
I also very much enjoy watching films and TV series. My favorite movies change often but these remain at the top of my list: Mulholland Drive; INLAND EMPIRE; City Lights; Ostrov; Aguirre: The Wrath of God; Cave of Forgotten Dreams; Moulin Rouge!; Hard to be a God; and a few others. Lately all I watch on TV is Arrested Development and Seinfeld.
My favorite theologians, by whom I have been the most influenced, are Joseph Ratzinger, Isaac the Syrian, Catherine of Siena, Origen, Gregory of Nyssa, Gregory of Nazianzus, John of Damascus, Dumitru Stăniloae, Thomas Aquinas, T.F. Torrance, and Athanasius. Notice, no Augustine or John Calvin.
